“All that we are and all that we hope to be, we owe to our loving families.”
Brittany and Christian’s love was years in the making. The high school friends turned into husband and wife in February, surrounded by their families, friends and rich Dominican and Puerto Rican heritage rooted in strong traditions of honor, respect, and unending love. It was almost like the couple was inheriting the gift of marriage from their parents, and their parents before them, and theirs before them, and so on and so on… I love how involved and intertwined these families were. From the traditional Catholic ceremony and blessing from the bride’s grandfather to the ‘generational table’ featuring both of their mothers’ wedding gowns on mannequins, to a live salsa band, the day told the couple’s complete story— past, present, and future.
They had a very old-school Hollywood glamour vibe, allowing me to play with light and shadows in a fine art photography style. It was all in the details: Brittany’s soft curls under her traditional mantilla lace veil, along with Christian’s white tuxedo and custom gold cufflinks, gave the couple an ethereal glow that radiated throughout the church and the reception venue. As I was editing these, I couldn’t help but to keep smiling– even later on in post-production, I can still feel their infectious happy energy coming through the photos. I captured just the right moments with Christian and Brittany using my flash, angles, and a direct connection to their vision (we were so in sync on their wedding, they cancelled on a wedding studio to work with me!)
These were some of my favorite bride and groom portraits to date– the contrast of the glowing, happy newlyweds and the darkness of the winter night heightened drama in the shots, really translating the excitement of the event into their pictures.
