Long Island, New York Weddings
Style: Documentary/Editorial
Anne and Milton’s theme was clear: togetherness.
On a sunny afternoon in May, Anne and Milton re-introduced themselves as husband and wife in a glamorous daytime reception at The Union in East Meadow, New York. The vibe was immaculate and decisively together, firmly rooted in the couple’s strong partnership– the thing that stood out most for me about this wedding was how they moved through everything as a unit, clearly setting themselves up for the rest of their lives.
Documentary-editorial style shots, especially the ones captured on film with my Kodak Portra, revealed the couple’s tender and solid connection. There were so many intimate moments that showed just how much Milton and Anne care for each other: getting ready with each other in their hotel room, Anne helped Milton button his shirt and put on his tie; before the party, the bride and groom shared a quiet cigar and glass of champagne. They took artistic direction extremely well, allowing me to play with light and shadows to produce dramatic, romantic shots that encapsulated their love story. You could feel the confidence that came from the couple as they walked into the venue side by side, like they were floating on air with the world as their oyster.
Since Milton and Anne had already had a courthouse wedding ceremony, this day was all about celebrating their union in a way that was completely their own. The couple had originally connected in their younger years, re-met in 2015 and got officially engaged in 2018, growing together and taking time to walk down the aisle in 2025. Their families were present, but not overbearing. Speeches were short and sweet, coming from the sisters of both the bride and groom; you couldn’t find a dry eye in the restaurant during the mother/son, father/daughter and first dances. The bride’s bouquet of calla lilies and baby pink roses matched the groom’s boutonnier, as well as the flowers on the cake, creating a continuous and connected floral theme of devotion and unity. The cigar bar was a romantic old-school touch to the event, emphasizing the elegance of the location itself and vibing perfectly with the couple’s signature cocktails (his: whiskey sour, hers: classic margarita). The crisp and classic feel of the entire wedding– along with the couple’s history and identity as native New Yorkers– made the party feel big and grand, allowing Anne and Milton to enjoy their long-awaited celebration.
